Meet Gregory P. Smith

Gregory P. Smith is an independent candidate for the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, running to represent the St. Thomas–St. John District. A career aviation professional, Gregory has spent years flying helicopters and airplanes, including work as a fire pilot — bringing preparation, discipline, and sound judgment to every challenge.

As a local business owner with two restaurants — including a recently opened second location — Gregory understands firsthand the realities of operating a business, serving customers, and supporting employees in the Virgin Islands.

Why I'm Running

"I'm running because the people of St. Thomas and St. John deserve leadership that listens, communicates honestly, and follows through. Our community faces real challenges—from the cost of living and reliable infrastructure to public safety, education, healthcare, and opportunities for local businesses and young people.

These issues require practical solutions and an independent voice willing to put people ahead of politics. I entered this race to bring that approach to the Legislature and help build a stronger, more accountable future for the Virgin Islands."

Experience That Shapes His Leadership

Three decades of service, business ownership, and hands-on leadership have prepared Gregory to make difficult decisions, build strong teams, and remain accountable for results.

Calm Under Pressure

A Career in Aviation

Thirty years in commercial aviation taught Gregory that leadership requires preparation, sound judgment, and personal responsibility. From supporting aerial firefighting operations to serving as Chief Pilot, he led teams, managed major projects, and learned to remain calm when the stakes were high and every decision mattered.

Creating Local Opportunity

A Local Business Owner

For more than a decade, Gregory has built businesses in the Virgin Islands and created jobs for more than 50 local residents. He understands what rising costs, unreliable services, and government delays mean in real life—and how much local families depend on businesses that can grow, hire, and remain open.

An Independent Voice

An Independent Voice

Gregory does not believe every good idea belongs to one political party. He will judge each issue by a simple standard: will it improve life for the people of St. Thomas and St. John? He is prepared to work with anyone offering practical solutions, challenge what is not working, and remain accountable to the community.

What Better Together Means

Better Together means remembering that behind every policy, every decision, and every debate are real people—families working hard to get by, business owners trying to keep their doors open, young people hoping for a future here, and seniors who deserve to feel secure in the community they helped build.

Gregory believes the Virgin Islands are strongest when we stop seeing one another as opposing sides and start recognizing the challenges we share. We may come from different backgrounds and hold different opinions, but we all want safer neighborhoods, stronger schools, dependable services, good jobs, and a future our children will be proud to inherit.

Throughout his life, Gregory has learned that real progress happens when people listen to one another, respect one another, and work toward a common goal. That is the kind of leadership he wants to bring to the Legislature—leadership that brings people together, gives every resident a voice, and never forgets who government is meant to serve.

Better Together is not just a slogan. It is a promise to put people before politics, community before division, and the future of the Virgin Islands above everything else.
