Gregory P. Smith, independent candidate for the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, has reached another important milestone in his campaign to represent the St. Thomas–St. John District.
Following the official casting of lots for the 2026 General Election ballot, Gregory P. Smith drew the third position overall, placing him as the first St. Thomas–St. John District Senate candidate listed on the ballot.
For Gregory, the ballot position is an encouraging moment—but not the finish line. It is a reminder that the campaign is moving forward, the General Election is approaching, and voters across St. Thomas and St. John will soon have an opportunity to choose practical, independent leadership.
“I am grateful to be listed first among the St. Thomas–St. John Senate candidates, but I know ballot position alone does not win an election—people do,” Gregory said. “This campaign is about earning trust, listening to residents, and giving voters an independent choice focused on solutions, accountability, and the future of the Virgin Islands.”
Gregory is running as an independent because he believes the territory needs problem-solvers who are willing to work across political lines, listen to residents, and make decisions based on what serves the people—not party pressure or political division.
His campaign is focused on issues that affect everyday life in the Virgin Islands, including affordability, infrastructure, reliable public services, small business growth, workforce opportunity, government accountability, public safety, and the future of the marine and tourism industries.
With 30 years of experience in aviation, emergency operations, leadership, budgeting, and team management, Gregory brings a background built on responsibility and results.
That combination of experience has shaped his approach to public service: listen first, ask the difficult questions, bring people together, and focus on practical solutions.
The campaign encourages voters to stay engaged, check their voter registration status, and learn more about Gregory’s priorities as the General Election approaches.
